Description: Alexandre Dumas (24 July 1802 - 5 December 1870) was one of the most prolific and popular French writers of the nineteenth century. He is best known for his historical novels of high adventure. Although he never quite succeeded in attaining literary eminence, Dumas was extremely successful first as a playwright and then as a novelist.
