5,000 Books, 3 Days, 1 Dirham – A Community Reading Celebration Across the Emirates

In June, Bookends hosted a book fair unlike any other—a weekend of pure literary joy that brought together families, children and book lovers from across all seven Emirates. Over just three days, we re-homed 5,000 books, turning what started as a simple AED 1 sale into a powerful celebration of reading and togetherness.

The sale wasn’t just about affordability—it was about access, inclusion and the shared love of books to read. Whether it was young parents picking out stories to read for kids, teens hunting for the best books to read this summer or grandparents rediscovering forgotten favorites, everyone found something to take home.

Set in Dubai Silicon Oasis, just 20 minutes from Dubai Mall, our event drew crowds far beyond Dubai. Visitors from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and the Northern Emirates made the journey, proving that the love of reading knows no borders. And if you were searching for a book shop near me or the warm feel of real community, you found it here.

This year, the UAE declared 2025 the Year of Community, a nationwide invitation to reconnect, uplift and support one another. At Bookends, we couldn’t have imagined a more fitting moment to contribute. In a world of screens and scrolls, books still have the power to bring people together and that’s exactly what happened here.

We’re deeply thankful to Time Out Dubai, who played a huge part in helping this event reach so many people. Their platform goes beyond listing Dubai events—it celebrates culture, creativity and connection. Their coverage made it possible for more readers to discover our mission to rehome thousands of pre-loved books and we’re sincerely grateful for their support.

Throughout the weekend, our aisles were buzzing with joy: children hugging their next bedtime read, friends swapping recommendations, families loading up summer stacks. It was more than a sale. It was a movement powered by readers, fueled by generosity and driven by the belief that books deserve second lives.

If you missed it, don’t worry. Bookends is always here—my friendly local book store near me, one of the coziest book shops in Dubai and a place where every day is a reason to celebrate reading.

Thank you to every single person who made it magical.
