Back to school with Bookends

Families all over the world, including us at Bookends, are beginning to prepare for the return to school as the summer draws to a close and the academic year approaches. It can be an exciting and challenging time for your children during this transition but you can give them the best possible start by taking the right steps. Establishing a regular sleep schedule, fostering positive habits and - most importantly - encouraging a return to reading are some of the best ways to prepare. Let's look at some tactics to help your kids succeed.

Establishing the Right Sleep Schedule

One of the most important steps in getting ready for school is to establish a consistent sleep routine. After a summer of late nights and late mornings, it makes the most sense to get back to an earlier bedtime. Studies show that adequate sleep is crucial for concentration, memory and overall academic performance. Start by gradually moving the bedtime earlier each night until your child is getting the recommended 9-11 hours of sleep. This will help them wake up refreshed and ready to tackle the school day.

Nurturing Healthy Habits

In addition to a proper sleep schedule, instilling healthy habits can make the back-to-school transition smoother. Encourage your children to take part in activities that stimulate both body and mind. Whether it's a morning exercise routine, healthy eating habits, or mindfulness practices, these habits build a strong foundation for academic success.

The Power of Reading Practice for Kids

Reading is one of the most important habits you can teach your children. Making reading a habit before the start of the school year can help them do much better academically. Frequent reading develops comprehension skills, increases vocabulary and sharpens concentration. While older children may benefit from daily individual reading time, younger children may benefit from reading aloud together.

If you want to increase reading engagement, consider creating a cosy reading corner in your home. To help children organise their collection and create a visually appealing area that encourages them to read their favourite books, you could also add some colourful bookends.

The Benefits of Second-Hand Books by Bookends

Buying new books every school year can be expensive, but there is a cheaper option. With us, Bookends it is easy to find affordable, excellent used books. Buying used books not only saves money, but also promotes sustainability.

Browsing our shelves can be a fun family activity, helping children discover new titles and stories they might not have come across otherwise. What's more, used books often have a sense of history, having been enjoyed by other readers, which adds to the charm and experience of reading. We have over 20,000 books so we keep parents entertained too but if you just want to relax while your child immerses themselves in the world of fairy tales, our reading corner is waiting for you!

You can find our great selection of pre loved books here organized for students of different ages between 6 -8 and 9 -12.

We’re looking forward to seeing you in Dubai Digital Park, A3 Building (Silicon Oasis) where exploring our store and finding second-hand books can be a cost-effective and enjoyable way to stock up on all the reading material your child will need.

PS.: We serve really nice coffee to parents!
