The Verity Movie Is Coming: Here's Your Complete Colleen Hoover Reading Guide

On October 2, Verity hits theaters, Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett bringing Colleen Hoover's darkest novel to the big screen. It's her fourth adaptation in two years, and every time one of these movies drops, the same thing happens: a whole new wave of readers goes looking for her books, and her backlist disappears off shelves within days.

So consider this your heads-up. Whether Verity is your way in or you've read everything she's written twice, here's the complete guide to Colleen Hoover, and what we've actually got in stock at Bookends right now.

Where to start with Colleen Hoover

If you've never read her, start with It Ends With Us, the book that made her a household name: a difficult, honest look at love and abuse that's sold millions of copies worldwide. From there, most readers branch two ways:

• For romance: Maybe Someday, November 9, and the Slammed series are Hoover at her most heart-on-sleeve.
• For thrillers: Verity and Too Late lean into suspense, with unreliable narrators and endings that reframe everything you just read.

Colleen Hoover books in order (the series)

It Ends With Us series: It Ends With Us → It Starts With Us

Slammed series: Slammed → Point of Retreat

Hopeless series: Hopeless → Losing Hope → Finding Cinderella → Finding Perfect

Maybe series: Maybe Someday → Maybe Not → Maybe Now

Never Never series (with Tarryn Fisher): Never Never → Never Never Part 2 → Never Never Part 3

Standalones: Verity, All Your Perfects, Without Merit, Confess, Layla, This Girl, Heart Bones, and Reminders of Him.

About Verity, the one everyone's about to be talking about

Verity follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to finish a bestselling series after its author, Verity Crawford, is left unable to write following an accident. While sorting through research at the Crawford home, Lowen finds an unfinished autobiography that reveals things Verity was never meant to say out loud. It's less romance than reckoning, and genuinely better read before you know how the film chose to end it.

We've got Verity in stock now, preloved and ready to go, with one week left before the movie changes how everyone talks about it.
